General Advisory to ALL Motor Insurance Customers
Subject: Important Update - Transition to Non-Wet-Ink Signatures on ALL Motor Insurance Certificates
Dear Nautica Customers,

We wish to advise you of an important change taking place within the motor insurance industry in Trinidad & Tobago.

Traditionally, motor insurance certificates and cover notes were issued as hard-copy documents bearing a manual "wet-ink" signature. While this has been a longstanding practice, it was never a legal requirement. The law only requires that motor certificates be printed; there is no stipulation mandating physical stamps or handwritten signatures.

The industry is now moving toward digitally generated, non-wet-ink signatures on motor certificates and cover notes. Guardian General Insurance Limited is the first of many insurers to implement this initiative.
What This Means for You
-
You will be receiving your motor certificate electronically, bearing digitally generated signatures.
-
These electronic certificates are fully valid and legally acceptable once printed and placed in your vehicle.
-
Customers will still be required by law to keep a printed copy of the certificate in their vehicle.
Nautica Insurance Brokers will guide and assist you as each insurer transitions to this updated format in 2026 and beyond.

This industry-wide shift is intended to improve efficiency, reduce delays, and enhance customer convenience. We will continue to keep you informed as each insurer adopts the new system.
